This a short story to show that all a carnivorous plant needs is the right light and proper care and it will not only thrive, but give you years and years of excitement and joy.

This is the story of Victor. A Venus Fly Trap that just couldn’t stomach the idea of eating live bugs :-(

Once upon a time, in a lush, sun-drenched corner of the botanical world, there existed a carnivorous plant named Victor. Victor was unlike any other carnivorous plant; he didn’t relish the idea of consuming live bugs to survive. Instead, he dreamed of feasting on the nutrients that the warm embracing sun would provide him, without having to endure the horrible thought of having to catch and eat live insects.

However, Victor’s unconventional desire didn’t sit well with his fellow carnivorous plants. They couldn’t fathom why he would want to deviate from their time-honoured tradition of trapping and devouring unsuspecting insects. So, one day, as Victor voiced his desire to become a vegetarian, the other carnivorous plants gathered around him, their leaves quivering with disdain.

“Victor, you must understand,” hissed Victoria, the Venus flytrap, her jaws snapping impatiently. “We are carnivorous plants by nature. It’s in our very essence to feast on live bugs. It’s what keeps us strong and healthy.”

You’re going against everything we stand for,” added Arnie, the pitcher plant, his sticky liquid oozing with disapproval. “Eating live bugs is not just a habit; it’s a necessity for our survival.”

Even Alexander, who he thought was his best friend, and who would understand, chimed in with his deep, menacing voice. “You think you can just change your diet and defy your instincts? Foolishness, Victor! You’ll only wither away without the sustenance of flesh.”

Despite the relentless taunting and pressure from his peers, Victor remained resolute in his desire to become a vegetarian. He knew deep down that there had to be another way to thrive without resorting to carnivorous habits. After all, he just did not have the stomach for killing!

Determined to prove his point, Victor dedicated himself to soaking up as much sunlight as possible and nurturing his roots in the purest of water. He even sang sweet melodies to himself, believing that love and care could sustain him in ways that bugs never could.

Days turned into weeks, and Victor’s fellow carnivorous plants watched with scepticism as he flourished without a single insect consumed. Slowly but surely, their doubts began to wane as they witnessed Victor’s vibrant green leaves and sturdy stem.

Finally, one day, as the sun bathed the botanical garden in its golden glow, Victor’s triumph was undeniable. He stood tall and proud, his leaves glistening with vitality, while a stalk of the most beautiful purple flowers grew proudly from his crown. All the other carnivorous plants looked on in awe, as they hadn’t even started growing flower stalks yet, let along displaying such beautiful flowers.

“You see, my friends,” Victor said with a gentle smile, “all a plant needs is lots of light, the correct soil to grow in, the purest of pure water, and lots of love and care. I may not eat live bugs like you, but I am just as strong and healthy.”

With that, Victor’s message resonated throughout the botanical world, proving that sometimes, the path less travelled can lead to the most beautiful blooms. And from that day forward, Victor was hailed not just as a vegetarian carnivorous plant, but as a beacon of hope for all those who dared to defy convention and follow their own unique paths.

And that dear Carnivorous Friends, is the story of how a plant, who did not like the taste of live bugs, became a vegetarian.

The End!
