I have had several questions about transplanting and repotting Carnivorous Plants, so this page is designed to show you how to transplant your babies when they have outgrown their pots.
All plants sold at Currys Post Carnivores will not need to be re-potted for at least a year. We ensure that before they are shipped off to their new forever homes, the pot size is appropriate enough to last at least 12 months. However there will come a time when you will need to re-pot, so this page will give you all the info you need to successfully transplant your baby, with minimal stress to you and your plant. Re-potting only needs to happen when the plant has outgrown the pot and/or you see several roots coming out of the bottom drainage holes. Although it is always recommended to transplant during dormancy (middle to end of winter specifically), as this reduces stress on the plant, transplanting the way I show below, can be done at any time of the year without any hassle as this method has minimal impact on the root system. This method can be used for any type of carnivorous plant, including Venus Fly Traps and the more delicate species like Heliamphora.
However, splitting and dividing your plants is best done during late winter when the plant is dormant. I will create another blog relating to this at a later stage. This post is specifically dedicated to transplanting your plant from a smaller to a larger pot.

What you will need:
- Nutrient / Fertiliser-Free Peat Moss Mix for Carnivorous Plants. This link is for your STANDARD Carnivorous Soil Mix, so be sure to order the correct blend for the different plant types!
- A Pot 1 or 2 sizes larger than the current one. (Some plants like Cephalotus prefer deeper pots rather than wider, so make sure you have the correct pot before transplanting)
- A Mixing Bowl. (Preferably 1 dedicated to this and not from the kitchen or divorce may very well be on the cards for you 🙂 )
- A bottle with spray head attached, filled with pure water.
- Small Spade and Shovel. These nifty tools are a must-have and I personally HIGHLY recommend them. They are the perfect size and make potting such a pleasure.
- (Optional) Spray Bottle with Novion. This helps reduce any stress the plant may feel during transplanting and boosts the plants overall health.

The video below should explain everything you need to know and do, but should you still have any questions or queries, please make contact with me and I’ll help with pleasure.
HAPPY GROWING!
